Popular Costumes for Kids

Children dressed in Batman & Robin costumes, 1966

Every girl dreams of being her favorite princess or child star, and every boy dreams of being his favorite superhero. Halloween is the best time of year for your child to live out this fantasy, and after that holiday, the costume can simply become a “dress-up” one for regular play.

For little girls, Cinderella and any of the other Disney princess kids costumes are usually the most popular, while Hannah Montana has always been a popular child star one. For little boys, the most popular superhero costumes are the old tried-and-true ones: Batman or Superman, followed closely by Spiderman.

You can purchase princess and superhero kids costumes at online stores that sell Halloween costumes. Surprisingly, many online stores actually sell costumes cheaper than “brick-and-mortar” ones, plus you may actually be able to pick out specific sizes, rather than having to go with a one-size-fits-all — which usually doesn’t. Any parent that has had to pin up a too-large costume will tell you that.

Online Halloween stores also have kids in mind when designing the costumes. This means that the princess costumes (even the Jasmine and Pocahontas ones, which do “show a little more skin” than the others) will be more modest. And, because you may be able to choose a specific size, you can be sure that it will fit properly, and not be too low on top or too short on the bottom.

The same goes for kids costumes that depict child stars. Even if the child star wears clothing that is slightly more mature than what your child normally wears, that too will probably have been toned down some. The shirts will most likely be slightly higher on top and the shorts or skirts slightly lower on bottom. In addition, the costume, even if you can’t find it in an appropriate size, will most likely be tailored to fit much more loosely than the actual clothing worn by the child star.

Fashion Emergency: Checkered Flags and Red Flags (Part 2)

Red Flag with a Yellow Cross

The caution flag has gone away and the green flag is out once again. As we enter the meaty part of the fashion do’s and don’ts, there’s more to emphasize here on just a daily basis instead of what the hot new color or newest purse is all the rage. Things you can avoid and to remember will long live any trend that comes about.

As far as the red flags go, here are a few instances you don’t want to get yourself caught in or be the talk around the water cooler at work. Let’s face it, work is the first place people will talk about you, like it or not.

The first thing actually noticeable at work besides the make-up is the hair. That’s a judgment call there since it all depends on the size of your face, your height and your build. Your stylist or salon professional can help you with that as they have many catalogs to help in making your decision as well as what color it should be.

Keep the seasons together also! You will clash otherwise. Common sense as we said. If you wear two of the same colors, they don’t have to be an exact match. This is a common assumption with navy blue. If they match too well, you may look like an airline stewardess. Don’t worry about handbags either. Women like to match them with every outfit they own. This is not necessary. If it just has a hint of the color you’re wearing, that’s good enough. Handbags have a personality all to their own.

Before our final pit stop, please remember, if your workplace has a dress-down day (usually Fridays), don’t wear Hawaiian shirts, tank tops, nuclear shorts (those ones that are so bright that the whole office could use them as a back-up generator if the power goes out) or cut-offs. Last but not least, for the MEN, do not wear open-toe shoes or sandals! I do not want to see your hairy feet, corns, cracked toes or poorly-managed feet! Thank you. Final pit stop coming up.

Fashion Emergency: Checkered Flags and Red Flags (Part 1)

Yes, I have to admit I had a reason for titling this article the way it is. We live in a fast-paced world for one and sometimes people just do not take the time to dress themselves properly or do something that sticks out like a sore thumb or gets our eyes to jump out and just gawk. So we have checkered flags for the “do’s” and red flags for the “don’ts”. These revelations are just what the industry and people who are a bit concerned about clothes, looks and anything trendy are worried about. The green flag has been waved.

I am not a professional here but I do question what some people wear and why. I guess it’s like me, a comfort thing. A flannel with a t-shirt underneath with sweatpants, to me, is comfortable. I get the chuckles because I still live in the grunge era. At least I don’t wear a mullet, we would then we’d have a problem. I can retort right back as well and ask the question of why do women who are considerably overweight, wear tight shorts or spandex? You know this is a red flag from the get-go! I’m sorry but even I know you can’t fit 50 pounds of potatoes in a 10-pound bag, so why do it? I’ll let that open for discussion when the first pit stop commences.

In our first few laps, some simple things to remember that work at all times would be to dress your age for one. I see too many women in their 60’s (without the aid of Botox) trying to be hip and cool and dressing like they were 35, including the make-up. I seen a couple instances that they either looked like a hooker or a store mannequin due to the excess make-up. As we head in for the first pit stop, also remember, don’t wear stuff you don’t want to or the fact you want to impress a boyfriend or a group of friends. The race will continue after a brief message as the yellow caution flag is waved.

What’s Hot for 2011

The buzz from the fashion world for 2011 are the colors coral and honeysuckle. Designers over the years, as with many colors, will be using different tones and shades to accent and enhance these predicted hot summer colors this year. Anything from a pinkish-orange to a deeper coral red will be in full swing in many of the outfits and accessories to be used and highlighted this year. Color tones that are warm and cool will more than likely be this year’s them throughout the season. The color that will go well and offset the coral is mentioned to be teal as well as 2010′s color winner, turquoise.

Other colors that will be in demand for the 2011 fashion season will be honeysuckle, peapod, beeswax, silver cloud, lavender, regatta, russet, blue curacao, silver peony and coral rose. Many of these can be alterbnated with one another offering a fresh look while having accents and/or background colors added to the blends.

Some items items you’ll more than likely see will be day dresses and pumps in the honeysuckle or coral color scheme as well as sunglasses and handbags. Some of the dresses and pumps may have a black accent to them to really show off the honeysuckle color. Honeysuckle is one of those colors you can wear day or night and can be useful and stunning in women’s apparel from nightwear to accessories and cosmetics while for men, works with ties, dress shirts and some sportswear. Some women will also be seen using lip gloss and eye blush as well in this color for the 2011 season.

Now, since the color honeysuckle represents the courage and boldness of a positive mood swing for the troubling times we face, I wouldn’t let that dictate what you want to wear as far as any of the other colors or fashions available, but unfortunately, that’s how the fashion industry interprets the colors; following or studying the the mood of people and the industry itself which then reflects the outcome of things that become the norm or setting the trend for the year.

Profession And Fashion

People usually don’t pay much attention to what they wear on a daily basis. When you get into a routine you have the feeling that fashion is not necessary. You may look beautiful and gorgeous in a party, but totally disheveled and unsettled in your office. Of course there are people who are particular about what they wear and how they carry themselves around.
People have a notion that those who are in the high positions or important jobs should look perfect each day while others can afford to be slack in their fashion sense. This is not the case. All professions and jobs are important and each one of you has the responsibility to look immaculate and good when you go for work.
There are some professions which would require a person to be very good looking. For example, take the job of a receptionist. This is a person who deals with people on a daily basis and so it is very important that they look very approachable and stylish. This is not to say that you should look like a celebrity, just you should be very clean and professional in your style.
It is not necessary that you should have naturally good features to look good. It is your clothes and your attitude which makes you attractive and appealing. Most people prefer to go to a person who is stylish and has a comfortable attitude than somebody who looks like they have just climbed out of the dustbin though they may be extremely pretty or good looking.
Your profession is an important factor which governs the way you look and the way you carry yourself around. Always remember to look very professional and cool. It is not a mistake to look fashionable even if your only role in the office is to dust the tables and chairs. Be stylish and look attractive.

Climate And Fashion

One of the things that can influence your fashion is the climatic condition of the place where you are at the time. Sometimes it would quite embarrassing and uncomfortable to be in a place with the clothes which you are wearing. There are also some situations where you would have to grab something to protect you before the weather threatens to harm you.
Look at the summer season. In the hot and sweaty climate, it would be unadvisable to wear black clothes, or something which would hug your body and stick on to it. The summer season calls for clothes of comfortable fabrics like cotton, or synthetic cotton. Wearing satin or crape in a hot climate can turn out to be disastrous especially if you are a person who sweats a lot.
Now consider the winter season. Wearing cotton clothes during winter would give you frostbite. The winter season would a great time to wear sheer black clothes. The cold would make you pale, which is a great combination with black clothes. Remember to wear something heavy like wool or something made from a rough fabric so that you would be protected from the cold.
The spring season is something in which you can wear anything. Be it black or white or any color you want. You can wear any fabric in which you would be comfortable and at ease. The spring is a season in which you can have any sense of fashion or make up and be comfortable without any fear of your make up getting messed up or having a sweaty day.
The climate and fashion are very closely linked. Be sure that the things you wear when you go out is compatible with the climate and that you won’t have to be embarrassed because of the effects the climate would have on your body.

The world of fashion is an ever-changing one. Trends and styles are never fixed and they change with the blink of an eye. Still, people never stop following them. One of the largest inspiring things that drive the fashion world is the celebrities. From decades, celebrities are the main source of inspiration for latest clothing and accessory trends.

Celebrities always want to create a media buzz and therefore they make sure that they always look great by wearing the latest fashion trends or by creating them. It is often seen that the celebrities who go out the way to become trend setter for their fans are more influential in the world of fashion.

Some celebrities even create a brand name to make their fashion trends available for their fans. For example, the famous American fashion model Kimora Lee Simons, (ex-wife of Russel Simons) launched her line of urban clothing in the name of Baby Phat. Kimora Lee Simons is an idol for every fashion-conscious woman with her high fashion elegance. With her power to inspire women, the Baby Phat clothing collection has redefined the modern street fashion. In fact, we can say it is the influence of Kimora Lee Simons that the latest launch by her, the KLS collection was found dressing various models in music videos, within a month of its release.

Celebrity brand like Baby Phat has made it affordable for common man and women to follow their favorite celebrity style. Following celebrity fashion helps you stay abreast with the latest trends.

However, one should remember that just wearing clothes similar to their favorite celebrities will not help them look good. Celebrities have perfect figure to carry whatever they wear. They have their own stylist and they spend hours taking care of their looks before stepping out of their home. Be careful while selecting your clothes and wear whatever suits you instead of blindly following any celebrity fashion.

The Fascinator Hat Returns to the Fashion Scene

The fascinator hat has seen quite the resurgence in popularity. Its origins date back to the 1930′s and has always been around in some form or another. Standard designs revolve around a shaped base that is crammed with all kinds of ornamentation on top. Pheasant tails, cabbage roses, large bows, all can be found on a fascinator. They are wonderful to wear at a cocktail party where they draw all kinds of attention to the wearer. Many a conversation gets started by the lady with the derring-do to wear one.

The Kentucky Derby is by far the most popular place to see these hats being worn, but don’t let that be the only place. Anywhere that a cocktail dress can go, so can the fascinator. Other places to wear them are parties, informal dinners, anywhere where a slightly formal dress code is required. Show a little individuality and arrive wearing a unique creation. It is fun to be able to do something different every once in a while, so why not wear a little hat?

Finding a hat doesn’t have to take a lot of footwork. Plenty of hat makers have websites, and there may even be a boutique in a nearby town. The best part about a fascinator is that they do not have to have a specific fit. This little fact makes it easier to purchase one online since there’s only looking good to be concerned with.

Don’t settle for the first hat that is found. There are so many to choose from that the wearer can easily be picky. Find one that complements personality, a special outfit, or has colors that appeal. A hat is a highly individual accessory, expressing in color and texture a hidden side of the wearer. Never be afraid to be a little bold.

Every fall season the fashion experts come out and make predictions for what they believe will be fashionable trends for two seasons in advance and this fall was no different.

Types of Lapels for the Fashionable Male

Let’s face it, lapels are probably not the first thought that a male has while he is getting dressed for a dinner date or a formal occasion. Most males don’t even think twice about how their lapel appears to the outside and barely take the time to fix it or invest in a new look. However, when there is so little to set one suit apart from another the lapel can really make a difference.

There are currently three different styles of lapels for suits that allow men to really make a statement when they wear their suits. Here is a look at the three various lapel styles and what style suit they look the best with.

Pointed Lapel. The pointed lapel is really making a come back in the 2011 collections of men’s suits. This lapel style allows men to be able to give off a sleek, modern look without having to overdo it. The best part is that there are varying sizes when it comes to the amount of point the lapel has which allows men to be able to customize their look. The pointed lapel looks great with any style of suit and can be worn for business occasions, formal occasions and even the casual dinner date.

Step Lapel. The step lapel is the most traditional style of lapel found on a suit. Chances are if you own a suit you are wearing a step lapel. The term step lapel came about because the lapel appears to have a step like look about it from the top to the bottom. While step lapels are popular they really only go with single button suit jackets. The double breasted step lapel gives off a blocky look to it.

Shawl Lapel. Imagine being able to wear a shawl all day long this is what this lapel looks like. It’s just one straight lapel line and looks great on casual sports jackets.
