Accessories Do’s and Don’ts

Fashion accessories for many of us, like most men, are unaware of things that will look best with their outfit. No matter how much expertise you may have, even the best of us are at a loss when it comes to accessories. With so many options available, it is rather apparent for most of us to forget about any accessories. Here are a few accessorizing do’s and don’ts to look at before you say no to items that may potentially be added to any outfit.

Do’s

Find accessories that will work your outfit. When choosing accessories, look at colors, patterns, type of material, ect. Find accessories that you can use with more then one outfit.

Follow current trends when accessorizing your outfit. People everywhere follow fashion magazines to see what is in and what is out in terms of accessories.  They days of leg warmers are gone, so stay current with your options and buy items that are considered in.

Strive to have that accessory that can go with just about any outfit. So many people stay focused on a particular accessory when it comes to accessorizing their outfits.

Don’ts

Never choose something that overtakes your outfit. An accessory is suppose to work with your wardrobe, not against it. Avoid huge, shiny, or brightly colored items that could take the focus away from you.

Never use the same accessory each time. If your look has a particular accessory, look to use it in many different ways with each outfit. Turn your beautiful scarf into a head wrap or tie it to your purse. Place your fancy brooch on different things, maybe a belt or pin it to the back pocket of your jeans. Always try to keep your accessory new and different.

All in all, use your best judgment. If it doesn’t look right, then just don’t wear it.

White after Labor Day?

One of the many seasonal fashion “don’ts” is to NOT wear white after Labor Day. Where did this originate from? Well, after some extensive searching, I came across a few ideas. The idea seems to have originated in the south. In the mid 1900′s there were more people entering into the middle classes then ever. Most of these new middle class citizens were unaware of the “standards” of high society and were given rules to follow in order to fit in. The rule seems to have started with white shoes, but then later moved to the rest of the wardrobe. White shoes, and later clothes, were not to be worn before Easter or after Labor Day. This was most likely to keep summer fashions in the summer and winter fashions in the winter. Of course, who would wear a scarf in the summer?

Some say that this seasonal fashion don’t is attributed to the fact that women covered up more in the early 20th century. Wearing white in the summer allowed them to stay cooler due to the colors reflective qualities. With the current lack of clothing that women wear in this day in age, they tend to wear darker colors during the summer.

During the winter months, try wearing a white coat, sweater, or even a white pair of jeans match perfectly in a sea of black. Make sure to put away those paper thin summer tops and instead reach for a heavier material. And try to stay away from the white shoes at any time, unless you want to look like a nerd. So, for now, you can count this out as a genuine fashion don’t. Most fashion experts are now saying that this is no longer a rule. Feel free to wear whatever color your heart desires during any season of the year.

Fashion and Jewelry Trends for 2011

This year spring will be fresh and youthful.  The main emphasis is neutral by day and bold by night.

The sleek and simple lines of the sixties and early seventies make a slight come back but the fabric is unadorned.  No bright daisy patterns or polka dots this time around.  Rather the elegant shift dress and  blazer in plain fabrics will emerge.

Classic elegance does not mean that fashion trends this year are boring, far from it. The bold colors of the night are corals mixed with black or turquoise with gold.   Exciting vibrant colors abound but no fancy intricate patterns on fabrics.  Still there is interest and variety as different colored separates are mixed and matched.  A coral blazer over black silk blouse  or a yellow square cut shirt over tired or layer electric blue skirt, this is the vibrancy of the new season.  Accessories are minimal and simple like Oscar De Le Renta’s gold bangles.  Bright and fun, but never over the top.

Jewelry is is classic and timeless with simple favorites like plain gold and diamonds.  Pearls have never gone out of fashion and this season is no different.  The perfect pearls will complement the daytime neutrals and add that special touch of classic charm for nights.  Consider Mikimoto‘s  South Sea White Pearl Classics for day wear and perhaps the  South Sea Black Pearl Collection for night wear.

Day or night, pearls will be the perfect complement to both the neutrals of the day and the brights of the night.
